Dennis Clyde McNorton, 79, of Slippery Rock, formerly of Jackson Center, passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at Orchard Manor in Grove City.

He was born in Pittsburgh on May 15, 1945, to Clyde Willard McNorton and Ida Steck McNorton. Denny married Sharon Ruth Kernan in 1971, and she survives at the residence.

He served in the Navy from 1962 to 1966, where he was stationed on the USS Essex and the USS Lake Champlain, where he guarded the Gemini 5 space capsule. Denny was a member of the Masonic Lodge Chapter 63 in Grove City as a 32nd Degree Mason and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of New Castle, and the American Legion of Honor.

Denny worked as an independent contractor with Mercer Transportation and drove tractor trailer until his retirement. Together, Denny and Sharon enjoyed traveling across the U.S. Denny enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a talented woodworker. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Denny is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Shawn D. (Susan) McNorton of Hubbard, Ohio; daughter, Carrie S. (Michael) Hemmerlin of Grove City; and granddaughters, Michaella and Merynne Hemmerlin of Grove City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald McNorton; and sister, Marlin Vidt.

MCNORTON — The family of Dennis Clyde McNorton, who died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.

There will be additional visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home. Chaplin Josh Ashurst, of Pittsburgh VA, will be presiding.

Interment with military honors will be in Allegheny Memorial Park in McCandless, Pa.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sergeant Joseph George Kusick VA Community Living Center, 353 N. Duffy Road, Butler.
