A 32% effort (13 of 40) from the field and 17 turnovers doomed Butler in a 49-38 boys basketball loss Tuesday at Fox Chapel.
Andrew Gettinger tallied 15 points, four rebounds and two blocks for Butler (9-5, 2-5 WPIAL Section 1-6A ) Tayt Lucas added 13 points.
The Foxes improved to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in section play.
Seneca Valley 48, Pine-Richland 45 — The Raiders’ surge continued as Tyler Pepin’s 20 points paced SV to an eighth consecutive win.
Owen Congdon scored 13 for the Raiders (9-6, 6-1).
North Catholic 61, Deer Lakes 46 — Jason Fredericks (16 points), Owen Maddalon (15) and Joe Waskiewicz (14) powered the Trojans past the Lancers.
North improved to 10-5 overall and 5-1 in section games.
Knoch took command early against Derry, leading 18-4 after one quarter in a 54-23 victory.
Karlee Buterbaugh scored 21 points for the Knights (6-8, 5-2) and Neah Ewing added 15.
North Allegheny 52, Butler 30 — Despite holding the Tigers scoreless in the second quarter, Butler fell on the road in this section clash.
Amelia McMichael scored 11 points for the Golden Tornado (8-6, 3-2 WPIAL Section 1-6A).
Butler girls improved to 6-0 with a 7-0 sweep of Blackhawk. Makenzie Zimmerman led the way with a 622 series (194, 215, 213) and Kaylee Kniess shot 538 with a 206 high game.
The boys lost 4-3 in a tight match; they lost Game 1 by three pins and won total pins by one. Greg Wilbert shot a personal high series of 720 (219, 234, 267), and Micah Potts shot a 632 series, including a high game of 235. David Shever shot a 240 high game.
