BASA board continues work of settling accounts before dissolution
BUTLER TWP — The Butler Area Sewer Authority board met Tuesday, Jan. 14, to continue work toward settling financial accounts with other parties.
Since the sale of BASA to Pennsylvania American Water in October, the board has primarily focused on ensuring all debts are both collected and paid.
“At this point, we’re just handling things on a financial end,” solicitor Mike Hnath said. “Then, we are going to dissolve.”
The meeting Tuesday saw an update on past due collections after notices were issued on Jan. 4.
Some have already paid, according to the report used in the meeting. The collection process will be transferred to Sharp Collections after Jan. 24.
The board also discussed a refund for credit balance accounts, which mostly stemmed from the early repayment of late fees. The board had shifted the due date, but some members had already settled their accounts and related late fees.
Board members intend to discuss the idea further with auditors before any action is taken.
