Joseph Maddalon Sr.
Joseph Charles Maddalon Sr., of Zelienople, beloved husband, father, grandfather and community leader, passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, at the age of 77.
Born Aug. 23, 1947, he was the only son of the late Joseph and Margaret Maddalon.
Joe graduated from St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in 1964.
Joe was the founder and owner of Maddalon Jewelers for over 30 years, where he built lasting relationships and became a pillar of the local community.
A proud veteran, Joe served in the U.S. Army’s 1st Cavalry during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars. He was an active member of the American Legion and held deep pride in his military service.
Joe was deeply involved in local organizations and causes. He was a former member of the Zelienople Zoning Board and the Zelienople Civil Service Commission. He was a member of the Hungarian Beneficial Society. A longtime advocate for youth sports, he spent many years as a coach for both Seneca Valley Youth Football and Baseball. He also served on the Seneca Valley Youth Football and Basketball Booster clubs.
An avid golfer, Joe was a cherished member of the Connoquenessing Country Club, where he enjoyed countless rounds of golf with friends and family. His greatest joy, however, was his four grandsons. He never missed an opportunity to celebrate their achievements, and his pride in them was immeasurable.
Throughout his life, his vibrant love of life touched everyone he met, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity and dedication to family and community.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Kathleen Maddalon; his children, David (Amy) Maddalon of Cranberry, Joseph Jr. (MaryBeth) Maddalon of Cranberry and Melissa Nicole Maddalon of Ellwood City; his grandchildren, Connor, Andrew, Owen and Tanner; as well as many friends who will remember him for his warmth, spirit and unwavering love for those he held dear.
Joe Maddalon will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and the countless lives he impacted.
MADDALON — Friends and family of Joseph Charles Maddalon Sr., who died Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, are welcome from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Divine Grace Parish, St. Gregory Church, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople. Friends and family please meet at church.
Joe will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
