Unexpected snowfall causes crashes around Butler County
Snow showers Tuesday evening, Jan. 14, caused multiple crashes on Interstate 79 and throughout the county.
State police, Superior Ambulance Service and Marion Township Volunteer Company responded to a passenger vehicle rollover with possible entrapment around 6:14 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Boyers and Ferguson roads in Marion Township.
One person was taken to AHN Grove City hospital with minor injuries but was not trapped, according to Douglas Dick, chief of Superior Ambulance Service.
Another crash involved an overturned tractor-trailer in the median of I-79 near mile marker 101.8 around 11:23 p.m.
State police responded first and reported no injuries but requested fire and emergency services for evaluation, according to police reports. The northbound lane was closed for about 20 minutes.
Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Portersville-Muddy Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department responded with state police.
The state Department of Transportation District 10 representatives said towing crews were at the scene around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday clearing the tractor-trailer out of the median but did not know the specific towing company or when the lane would reopen.
Another crash at mile marker 102 at 5:23 p.m. included a passenger vehicle in the median. Ryan Hanchosky, Slippery Rock fire chief, said state police responded and reported no injuries.
