Selenite Tea House in Middlesex Township given green light to host events

MIDDLESEX TWP — Supervisors voted to approve a conditional use permit for a catering and event space on Monks Road during their meeting Wednesday evening, Jan. 15.

Kelley Perry, a real estate agent based in Cranberry Township, purchased the 17-acre property on Monks Road in July for $725,000, and plans to open it as the Selenite Tea House. Perry has been presenting plans for the tea house to Middlesex Township boards since October.

A conditional use permit was required, as the Monks Road property is located in Middlesex Township’s AG-A zone, which is rural residential. Catering/event venues are a conditional use in the AG-A zone.

Perry has previously stated that she plans to have the tea house open by this spring. The plans are for the Selenite, once open, to operate as a regular tea house on Monday through Thursday, and host special events the rest of the week.

During Wednesday night’s meeting, one resident who lives near the site of the tea house asked whether or not it would host weddings, as she was concerned about noise levels. Perry replied that the tea house had no plans to host full-on weddings at the venue, and that it was geared mainly toward hosting baby showers, bridal showers and other small events.
