Margaret ‘Alene’ Baker
Margaret “Alene” Baker, 85, of Slippery Rock, passed at her residence on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025.
She was born on Nov. 30, 1939, in Jacksonville, Fla., to the late Charles Stapleton and Mary Magdaline Jackson Stapleton. Alene was one of 10 children. She married Dalton L. Baker on April 16, 1970, and he preceded her in death on June 29, 1988.
Prior to living in Slippery Rock, Alene has lived in Alaska for over 30 years. There she enjoyed hunting caribou, fishing for salmon and being outdoors in nature. She was a talented cook, enjoyed gardening, canning and watching birds. She was often referred to by her family as “Mountain Momma” for her hardworking attitude and pioneering spirit.
Above all else, she cherished spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alene is survived by her three daughters, Gwen Geldersma of Alaska, Angie (Scott) Moyer of Slippery Rock and Amber (Bill) Edwards of Boyers; five grandchildren, Josh, Justin, Gina, Tyler and Abigail; and five great-grandchildren, Addalynn, Mikayla, Natalie, Dalton and Taliya.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Stephens of Oregon; granddaughter, BilliePaige Edwards; and her nine siblings.
BAKER — There will be a private burial at Prairie Cemetery in Harrisville for Margaret “Alene” Baker, who died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025.
