Ronald Steighner
Ronald L. “Hot Dog” Steighner, 87, of Butler and Leesburg, Fla., passed away Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025, in the comfort of his Florida home and with his loving family at his side.
Born in Butler on Sept. 6, 1937, he was a son of the late Louis and Wynola Parker Steighner.
Following his graduation from Butler High School in 1955, Ron went on to serve four years in the U.S. Navy.
He was employed for 35 years at the Butler Works of Armco Steel.
He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Butler and St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Leesburg.
He was a long-standing member of the Larry George/Monroe Hotel Golf League at Hiland Golf Course.
To say that Ron enjoyed sports is an understatement. He had a special love of golf, and achieved over the years three holes-in-one. He also excelled at bowling, rolling three, 300 games and a high 812 series.
Ron leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 64 years, Mary Lu Cammisa Steighner; one son, Steven J. Steighner and his wife, Shelley Allen Steighner, of Butler; two daughters, Lisa A. Steighner, of Columbus, Ohio and Crystal M. Dyckes and her husband, Robert Dyckes, of Grove City, Ohio; three grandchildren, Ashley McCandless and her husband, Justin, Natalya West and her husband, James, and Matthew Steighner and his wife, Paige; and two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Tanner McCandless.
He is also survived by two brothers, Frank “Butch” Steighner and Danny Steighner; five sisters, Kay Magee and her husband, Bill, Helen Eshelman, Sue Shultz and her husband, Mark, Marianne Payne and Becky Shearer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Regis “Skip” Steighner and Louis “Corky” Steighner; three brothers-in-law, Jim Shearer, Chuck Payne and Fred Eshelman; and three sisters-in-law, Clementine Steighner, Patty Steighner and Barb Steighner.
Ron and Mary Lu spent many years in Florida, and he leaves behind many loving and great friends there.
STEIGHNER — Friends of Ronald L. “Hot Dog” Steighner, who died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at All Saints Parish, St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave., Butler.
A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.
Burial will take place in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
