Butler Township awards contracts for Pullman Rec Complex Site
BUTLER TWP — Township commissioners awarded site preparation contracts that will move the Pullman Recreation Complex project forward during a meeting on Monday, Jan. 20.
After receiving 11 bids on Jan. 17, commissioners approved a contract with Playing Surface Solutions, Inc. to elevate eight acres at the complex site with about 17,000 cubic yards of specialized soil.
Township manager Tom Knights announced the contract with the Crawford County contractor is worth $346,354. The same contractor was also awarded a contract for crushing down concrete to mix with the soil at the site for the amount of $3,750.
Commissioners were charged with choosing the lowest responsible bid for each contract and determined that it was a fair price for the work that will be done in the coming months.
Knights also noted that Phase 2 of the project will begin “when weather permits,” but said he anticipates the leveling off of the site to be completed by the end of May.
The acreage that will receive an elevation boost makes up about half the site’s total property and will cover all three artificial athletic fields.
The first multipurpose turf field at the site was finished in October of last year.
Commissioners set aside $8.7 million in this year’s budget that will go toward completion of three fields and two buildings at the future complex. The project is also set to include a pavilion picnic area and an asphalt walking trail that will surround the fields.
