Cold days ahead for Butler County
A chill settled across Butler County on Monday, Jan. 20, causing school delays for the upcoming days.
The National Weather Service placed a cold weather advisory on Butler County. The advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
Meteorologist Rich Redmond from the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh reported that Monday evening will be very cold, with the temperature expected to dip into the negatives.
That cold is expected to get worse throughout Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tuesday will likely see dry and cold conditions, Redmond said, with a high only reaching around 10 degrees.
Light snow is expected to hit the area Tuesday evening. Redmond noted that the snowfall will be brief, but drivers should be aware of road conditions.
“When it gets this cold, any snow that falls will see accumulation,” Redmond said.
Dry and cold conditions are expected to continue throughout a majority of the week, stretching through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
According to Redmond, the coldest will be Wednesday, where temperatures may drop close to -10 degrees.
Wind chill is not expected to impact temperature much later in the week, Redmond said.
Thursday will see the return of slightly warmer temperatures, with the high expected to be around the mid 20s. Friday will also be mostly dry and cold, with a similar high temperature.
Redmond reported a “slim chance” of showers or flurries later Friday, but estimated a less than 20% chance.
