Warming center opened, caution advised as Slippery Rock sees morning power outage during cold weather advisory
SLIPPERY ROCK -- Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company has opened its bingo hall Wednesday morning, Jan. 22, to serve as a warming center for those who may need it amid a power outage affecting hundreds in the area.
On the coldest day of the winter thus far, an estimated 221 customers are impacted by the region’s outage, according to West Penn Power.
A crew is currently investigating the cause of the outage and power is expected to be restored by 11:30 a.m.
According to borough police, traffic signals throughout the area may be affected by the outage. Police reminded drivers that they must stop before driving through an intersection, in all directions, when a signal is out.
A cold weather advisory will be in effect for the borough until 1 p.m.
