Those in the Emlenton area may have just a few days to catch a glimpse of an “ice wall” art installation created by resident Joshua Rowe on Big Bend Road.

The installation, which Rowe created entirely on his own, consists of a neat arrangement of almost 300 balloons and 13 giant hearts on a snow-covered mound that’s 64 feet in length.

This is not the first time that Rowe has created an ice wall. He last did so in 2021, and created others in 2014 and 2015. When snow came to Western Pennsylvania this winter, Rowe decided it was time to try again.

“I set my mind to create another ice wall,” Rowe said. “I’m not getting any younger. I turned 36 last year.”

Winter is the happiest time of year for Rowe, who enjoys taking pictures of individual snowflakes with a digital camera and microscope. He also maintains a large collection of decorated keys.

“Everything I have, nobody else has,” Rowe said. “Being original means making something nobody else has.”
