Freeport middle school on schools to watch list
National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform placed Freeport Area Middle School on its Schools to Watch list, which acknowledges schools’ commitment to academic excellence, responsiveness, social equity and organizational student support.
Being named a national ‘Schools to Watch’ is a reflection of the hard work, dedication and collaboration of the entire school community, including students, staff and families, said a news release from Freeport Area School District. This designation highlights the school’s efforts to create a nurturing, innovative and inclusive environment that prepares middle school students for success in middle school and beyond.
Freeport’s application was reviewed, and on Oct. 17, a team of evaluators visited the middle school to observe classrooms; interview staff, students and parents; and assess the school’s culture and instructional practices. The process required detailed evidence of the school’s practices and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Out of the thousands of middle schools nationwide, only 700 have been honored with this designation over the years. Freeport Area Middle School was one of three schools with an initial designation in the state of Pennsylvania this school year.
