Slippery Rock Township looks into CDBG fund usages
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — Members of the board of supervisors gathered at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, to ensure proper heating of township facilities and look into methods to best use their Community Development Block Grant funds.
The board:
- approved the subdivision on a parcel of property along Kiester Road, with the owner expressing an intent to sell one of the three resulting parcels.
- approved the replacement of a furnace in the maintenance office for a cost of $4,300, which includes any costs associated with the installation.
- paid for the replacement of heaters in both bathrooms and the lobby of the township office building, at $585 per heater.
- considered reallocating leftover Community Development Block Grant funds from McCandless Road to Pink Road. Ultimately, board members voted to look into starting a second phase on McCandless Road to further improve its condition.
- inquired into whether grant funds could be used to combat blight, to which it was confirmed they can. A municipality can spend 30% of its block grant funds toward demolitions, as long as proper procedures are followed. Chairman Paul Dickey stated that blight is “not a concern” to the municipality, and that the purpose of the inquiry was to “open a conversation.”
- renewed its annual agreement with the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department.
The board of supervisors are expected to meet for their next regular meeting on Feb. 10 at 8 p.m.
