Walter Fitzpatrick
Walter J. Fitzpatrick, of Butler, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025.
He was born in Johnstown, Pa., to John Fitzpatrick and Willa (Willett) Fitzpatrick on May 16, 1942.
He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and went on to teach at Butler County Community College from 1967 to 2009. He was a professor of geography, sociology and social problems and was beloved by his many students. He was an avid supporter of BC3 athletics and was inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.
Walter's two greatest passions in life were baseball and Classic Coca-Cola. He was a devoted fan of Pitt athletics, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He would also read to the children at Creative Playcare.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; a son, Justin; daughter, Shannon Gaiser; son-in-law, Chris Gaiser; and two grandchildren, Emma and Zayden Gaiser.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister-in-law, Ann Sperber.
If everyone could wear their favorite Pittsburgh or Butler Athletic wear to send him off to a Heaven full of baseball and Coca Cola, it would be appreciated.
FITZPATRICK — A visitation for Walter J. Fitzpatrick, who died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
Additional visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Jan. 30, with a funeral service immediately following at noon with Minister Nancy Hoover officiating, at the funeral home.
A private burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Butler County Community College Athletic Department.
