What to ask on a college tour

When deciding what college or university is right for you, going on a tour of the campus is almost always necessary. While staff and student tour guides give plenty of information on their own, don’t forget to ask questions of your own to make sure you know all there is to know about campus life.

At Slippery Rock University, tour guides are referred to as “pride guides.” One current pride guide, Kyla FaJohn, and one former pride guide, Kenzie Hale, shared tips to help you learn as much as possible from this resource.

A prospective student could ask a tour guide:

■ Is the program I am interested in accredited?

■ Can you define the campus culture in a few sentences?

■ What kind of clubs are available?

■ What opportunities will I have to make friends outside the classroom?

■ What is dining like on campus? Where are the best spots?

■ What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?

■ What is housing like?

■ Are there opportunities for student employment?

■ What sort of things do students do for fun?

■ What are some things to do off-campus?

■ What services are available on campus to support students?

■ Does the school provide aid in finding employment after graduation?

■ What research opportunities are available for undergraduates?

■ How will being here advance my career and learning experience?

■ What makes you most proud to be a student here?
