DeVona ‘Vonnie’ Kunkle

DeVona “Vonnie” (Cypher) Kunkle, 88 of Piketon, Ohio, passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, after an extended illness.

Vonnie was born in Butler on March 30, 1936, to the late James Lester and Mabel Irene Cypher.

On Dec. 31, 1954, she married Harold C. Kunkle in Marwood. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Vonnie is survived by her husband; along with son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Carrie Kunkle of Newcomerstown; and granddaughter, Emily (Brandon) Adkins of Waverly. She has two great-granddaughters, Jayla Rigsby and Amelia Adkins. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and special friends throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Brian Kunkle; and siblings, Phyllis Bartley, Geraldine Mae Cypher, Gloria Moser, Rosemary Holben and Deanie Lerch.

Vonnie enjoyed traveling and planning time together with her family and friends. Her travels took her throughout the United States, but some of her favorite vacation spots included the beach. She delighted in all things cats, welcoming in many feline friends throughout the years.

A devout Christian, she was confirmed at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot as a young girl and had been a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Chillicothe.

KUNKLE — A memorial service will be held at a later date for DeVona “Vonnie” (Cypher) Kunkle, who died Friday, Jan. 24, 2025.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 151 University Dr. Chillicothe, OH 45601.
