Police: Man arrested after stealing credit card from Clearfield Township neighbor’s vehicle

A man was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 29 after police said he stole his Clearfield Township neighbor’s credit card and made unauthorized purchases totaling more than $800.

Thomas W. McCune, 57, Clearfield Township, has been charged with felony unauthorized access of a device and misdemeanor receiving stolen property.

According to the police affidavit, on Monday, the owner of the credit card, who lives on Harris Road in Clearfield Township, reported to police that his Mastercard was recently stolen out of his vehicle.

Later that day, his bank contacted him to report multiple unauthorized charges on his account, which added up to $807.48. This included three transactions at a Sheetz.

Police were able to track down McCune through surveillance camera footage at Sheetz, which showed him pumping gas into his dark blue Jeep Grand Cherokee with a visible license plate number. According to the police affidavit, McCune lives within walking distance of the victim.

McCune is currently held at Butler County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday, Feb. 11, in front of Judge Lewis Stoughton.
