Melvin Lumley

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Melvin Lumley, a beloved soul who left this world on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024, at the age of 79.

Melvin was born on Jan. 5, 1946, in Butler, and later called Paragould, Ark., his home.

A true character, Melvin had a knack for dressing like a cowboy. He embraced the outdoors and cherished the memories of hunting in his younger days. A hard worker through and through, he dedicated many years to working in the railcar industry. His craft was his pride, and he took great joy in the work he did.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Lumley and Mary Jane Knoll; and his beloved wife, Amy Bitter.

He leaves behind his brother, Gene (Diane) Lumley; brothers-in-law, Fredrick (Carole) “Rick” J. Bitter Jr. and Gregory John (Michele) Bitter; niece, Melissa Heller; nephews, Trevor F. Bitter and Fredrick “Erick” Bitter, all of Butler; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
