College roundup: Seneca Valley grad Emerson Peffer earns PAC weekly honor
Emerson Peffer, a Seneca Valley graduate and freshman forward at St. Vincent, was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference women’s basketball newcomer of the week.
Peffer averaged 11 points last week for the Bearcats, who went 2-0. She had eight points and three rebounds in Wednesday’s win over Franciscan, then scored 14 points and grabbed three rebounds in Saturday’s win over Thiel.
Edinboro beat Slippery Rock women’s basketball 74-57 Wednesday. Sophia Hook scored a team-high 13 points for The Rock and grabbed five rebounds. Brooklyn Jones scored 10 points.
The SRU men fell 74-64 Wednesday, with Day Waters leading the offense with a season-high 24 points. Ike Herster scored 16 points, and Luke Howes added 10.
Slippery Rock junior Kanye Thompson was named the PSAC men’s indoor track athlete of the week after winning the 60-meter dash last week at the Ashland Invitational. His 6.73 seconds is an NCAA provisional time and leads the PSAC.
SRU’s Samantha Gilbert also won the 60 in 7.67 seconds at Ashland to earn PSAC women’s indoor track athlete of the week.
Slippery Rock’s Day Waters was named the PSAC Western Division men’s basketball AOTW after scoring 17 points a week ago against IUP to finish a sweep of the team for the first time since 2009.
