Cranberry Township Holiday Inn Express now could be constructed
A Holiday Inn Express hotel that previously was approved by Cranberry Township supervisors in 2019 is now back on track for construction.
Supervisors held a public hearing Thursday, Jan. 30, for a conditional use application for the four-story, 84-room hotel that will be located on 3.71 acres at 1744 Route 228, behind the Cracker Barrel.
After being approved Feb. 28, 2019, plans for the hotel were put on an extended pause because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The township mandates a five-year window for construction following approval, but that timeline expired in early 2024.
According to Cranberry Township’s planning and development services director Ron Henshaw, the vast majority of the space is developed, which includes pavement, streetscape enhancements and a joint stormwater pond located off-site.
“All of these things are already in place for this development,” he said during the hearing. “It’s all the same, nothing has changed from what you have previously seen.”
In addition, the site map lays out a trail system that winds in and around the Cranberry Woods Development that continues to grow with new company headquarters and retail locations.
Township staff is working with the developer to pin down responsibilities for a stretch of Longtree Way that runs parallel to the proposed development. Those responsibilities include “streetlights, landscaping and winter maintenance,” according to Henshaw.
Once all that is agreed upon, staff will have the developer sign a road maintenance agreement.
Supervisors will consider final approval for the application at the Feb. 6 meeting.
