EBT cardholders told to be vigilant of ‘skimming’ fraud
Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services is warning EBT cardholders to watch out for increasing incidents of “skimming,” when SNAP benefits are stolen from EBT cards through devices attached to point-of-sale machines.
Residents who hold EBT cards should check all point-of-sale machines to make sure that no suspicious devices are attached and retailers should do the same.
EBT cardholders should report any theft of SNAP benefits to local law enforcement. If a theft occurs, they can request a replacement card by calling 888-328-7366, or contacting their county assistance office.
The department is planning to send a text message to all recipients of SNAP benefits warning them of the existence of skimming devices.
