Multiple crashes reported Sunday

Multiple crashes, some in regions reporting icy conditions, were reported Sunday, Feb. 2, in Butler and neighboring Clarion counties.

A section of Interstate 80 near Emlenton, in Clarion County, was closed for about two hours Sunday due to a series of vehicle accidents.

Units from the Marion Township and Harrisville volunteer fire companies, in Butler County, were called to help close the interstate at mile markers 29 and 35.

The incidents began at about 3 p.m. and the road was not opened until almost 5 p.m., according to PennDOT’s 511 website.

According to a Clarion County 911 dispatcher, there were “multiple” accidents along Interstate 80, as well as crashes and disabled vehicles in Parker in Armstrong County.

A Venango County dispatcher said there are “many” tractor trailers stuck along Interstate 80, and multiple injuries were reported.

“We're running out of ambulances, actually,” the Venango dispatcher said at the time.

A small portion of Interstate 80 runs through Allegheny Township, in Butler County.

Only a half-hour later, at about 3:30 p.m., scanner traffic indicated another crash had occurred on Glenwood Way. No injuries were reported.

Less than an hour after that, another crash without injuries was reported near 322 Eau Claire Road.

Within minutes, at about 4 p.m., a tractor trailer accident which resulted in the truck entering the river at the Foxburg bridge on Route 58 in Clarion County was reported.

At about 5 p.m. a two-vehicle crash was reported in the area of Interstate 79 and Route 422, New Castle Road. The incident slowed traffic for a short time. The road was cleared shortly before 5:30 p.m.

One individual involved was taken for medical treatment.
