College roundup: Multiple former Butler County athletes earn conference weekly honors
Several college athletes with ties to Butler County high schools earned conference honors this week.
Slippery Rock University junior Ruthie Hughes, a Seneca Valley grad, was named the PSAC indoor track women’s athlete of the week after she ran a career-best 5:08.45 in the mile at the Jim Wuske Invitational.
Former North Catholic player Andrew Ubinger, a junior outside hitter for Geneva College, was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference men’s volleyball offensive player of the week.
Ubinger recorded 29 kills during a week when the Golden Tornado went 2-1.
Ishmael Leggett scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds as Pitt lost to Virginia Monday night 73-57.
The Cavaliers opened the game on a 17-0 run. The Panthers fell to 14-8 (5-6 ACC).
