Children make collaborative decoration at Butler library
The Butler Area Public Library has plenty of activities to commemorate, not only Valentine’s Day, but all of February with the theme of love.
Tiffany Harkleroad, youth services librarian at the library, said the children’s section will have a paper heart in place all month, plus a cache of washi tape, which children can place on the heart every time they visit the library.
“I was going to use string at first, but the tape would stick better and not be hanging off,” Harkleroad said.
She said the project may be displayed in the children’s section once the month is over. The heart is filled with tape of different designs.
Several children visited the library and its children’s section on Tuesday evening, Feb. 4, for a book club event, where they also got to place their tape for the day.
Sisters Kendyl Shippos, 8, and Kamryn Shippos, 7, each placed their tape when they got to the library. Kendyl commented that something she loves is her dog.
Caleb Yount, 9, said after placing his tape that he enjoyed getting stuffed animals at school, which come with valentines from other students during Valentine’s Day events.
The library has other Valentine’s Day offerings throughout February, including an activity kit available Feb. 18 containing supplies to make paper doughnuts and a Valentine’s Day story time at 1 p.m. Feb. 14.
