H.Y. ‘Mac’ McAllister
H.Y. “Mac” McAllister, of Center Township, passed from this earthly plane on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, as a result of natural causes.
Mac was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to the late Homer M. and Margaret Y. McAllister. He always considered himself a small-town boy from Iowa farm country, aka “God’s country.” He was predeceased by his devoted wife, the former Mary Bluming.
Mac lived well into his 91st year, without ever growing old, and with barely growing up. He was a biology professor at Slippery Rock University for 38 years, beginning when it was Slippery Rock State Normal School, then Slippery Rock State College.
Mac is more widely known for his great passion and dedication to the sport of trapshooting. He was renowned across the country, as well as parts of Canada. His shooting career spanned 60 years and brought him countless awards and trophies, including some top national honors and induction into the state hall of fame.
Mac volunteered at both the state and national levels to help maintain the integrity of the sport. Mac was always the go-to expert for any disputes over official rules. He holds the record as the longest serving delegate to the PSSA. But his greatest benefit and enjoyment came from the camaraderie of his fellow trapshooters over the many decades.
Mac is survived by his daughter, Sheila (Wayne) Scott of Boston. He was sadly predeceased in 2005 by his son, the late Charles “Stuart” McAllister of Phoenix. Also surviving are grandchildren, Clement and Charlotte Scott of Boston, and Ian, Vincent, Blayne (Laurel) and Rilee McAllister, and Malissa (Juni) Cheslic, all of Phoenix. As well as six great-grandchildren.
MCALLISTER — All services for H.Y. “Mac” McAllister, who died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, were held privately through SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.
