High taxes hurt everyone
Reply to Bill Adams: I apologize if I upset anyone, it was not my intent.
I intended my response to Geno Mariotti’s letter to illuminate the hypocrisy of criticizing people who control great wealth by using a quote from someone who controls great wealth. Jesus criticized hypocrisy.
Thank you for helping me to realize the inadequacy of 250 words or less to cover this topic.
The Roman Catholic Church does great things worldwide. The sheer volume of good work requires income and assets. The need is great, yet declining attendance and giving hinder our efforts.
I believe Mr. Adams intended good with his letter, as do I. Being a servant of the Almighty God comes with responsibility, which we must handle properly.
The Bible tells us “there is no authority except from God.” Our Creator has given the Pope authority and I respect that.
Like Mr. Adams, I ask, “Are needlessly high taxes for unnecessary expenditures hurting young families…?” My answer is that this is hurting everybody.
The U.S. Inflation Calculator reveals 22.7% inflation since 2019. This reduction of nearly a quarter of our spending power hurts everyone. It likely accounts for the longer lines when we distribute free food. And it places needless stress on all.
May Almighty God bless the people He endows with authority to govern wisely and efficiently; and may we turn our hearts to Him to pray for His blessing. Remember: God loves you …
