High school roundup: Knoch’s Jackson Bauman reaches 1,000 career points in win over South Allegheny

Knoch standout basketball player Jackson Bauman scored 19 points, reaching 1,000 for his career, in a 62-59 non-section win over fellow WPIAL playoff qualifier South Allegheny on Saturday.

Brody Bauman added 12 points in the boys basketball victory for the Knights (16-6) at North Allegheny High School.

Boys wrestling

Butler went 5-1 at Saturday’s Ram Duals at Pine-Richland High School.

The Golden Tornado beat Hempfield Area 47-27, Carrick 66-7, West Mifflin 52-21, Avonworth 54-22, Pine-Richland 54-21 and lost the final round 35-28 to Moon.

Moon went a perfect 6-0 to finish as the top team.

Santino Sloboda and Kase Chopp each went 6-0 with multiple wins by pin or technical fall.

Seneca Valley went 2-4 and Mars 1-5. Mars’ Liam Hein went 6-0 with several pins. The Raiders’ Thomas Wuycheck was also 6-0 with multiple pins.

Indoor track and field

Butler’s 4x800 boys relay team was the highlight of Saturday’s SPIRE Showcase meet in Ohio.

Ethan Thomas, Logan Rogers, Alex Motonis and Zach Slear combined to run 8:08.09 to finish third at the meet, running the fifth fastest time in program history.

It was the top finish for the Golden Tornado at a competitive meet Saturday.

Jason Wick finished fourth in the pole vault in 13 feet, 6 inches, the sixth best performance in program history. The boys 4x400 relay (Regan Peth, Grayden Brown, Carter Ekas and Aaron Stebick) finished sixth in 3:29.65, and the 4x200 boys relay (Brown, Stebick, Chris Rubcic and Kevin Shriver) overcame a mid-race collision with multiple teams to finish eighth in 1:34.44.

On the girls’ side, the 4x400 relay of Madi McGarrah, Lyla Bowden, Adraya Baxter and Jocie Slesinski finished fourth (fifth in program history) with a 4:07.08., and Aubrey Rock pole vaulted to fifth (10-0), the seventh best mark for Butler.

Other top-five program marks Saturday included: Thomas, 9:39.37 in the boys 3200-meter (third all-time) and Brendan Eicher, 9:44.37 in the 3200 (fifth all-time); Slesinski, 59 seconds in the girls 400 (third all-time), Zari Golojuh, 12:05.49 in the 3200 (fourth all-time) and McGarrah, 2:23.55 in the 800 (fifth all-time).

Slippery Rock competes at Youngstown State — Dustin Joyce took home a pair of medals Saturday with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (42-8.75) and fifth-place finish in the long jump (21-3) to lead the Rockets. Samantha Montgomery came in sixth in the long jump (16-0.5).

Girls basketball

Union/A-C Valley fell 63-34 to Commodore Perry on Saturday.

Maddy Dehart had a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Kya Wetzel finished with eight points and seven boards.
