Knoch High School renovation makes progress

Knoch DME

The kitchen and cafeteria area, a major part of the Knoch High School renovation project, is close to being complete along with other portions.

John Pappas, president of Eckles Construction Services, said while updating the Knoch School District Board Wednesday, Feb. 12, that the near completion of the area, along with a new commons area nearby, was an important milestone.

“Currently, we are extremely excited about the new additions to the kitchen and cafeteria area, and common space related areas,” Pappas said. “Currently we are wrapping that up and getting real close to being turned over, so really exciting things ahead as far as getting into the next phases.”

Jenny Webb, Knoch’s head of communications, said earlier Wednesday afternoon that a grand opening of Knoch High School’s new commons area is scheduled for Feb. 21.

Pappas noted work on the outside of the building is also continuing as panels arrive to be installed. He said as more of those arrive, we will see the exterior of the building begin to get wrapped up.

“Timing of this projects has been very good. The schedule works, when the weather is not nice, there’s a lot of work in the inside for us to do,” Pappas said. “A lot of the outside work got done last year, so we’ve been very fortunate to have as much inside work throughout the winter here and take advantage of the opportunity.”

Other renovated areas highlighted at the school board meeting included a nearly-complete new main entrance into the common space, leading to the cafeteria space. Flooring for stairs, along with furniture installed, were other minor details included in the presentation.

The project remains on pace to be completed in time for the 2025-26 school year. The board had previously voted to start the next school year on Sept. 4, to allow construction crews enough time to complete the $39 million project for the academic year.
