George Schiebel Jr.

George L. Schiebel Jr., 63, of Landenberg, Pa., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025.

Born in Butler on July 22, 1961, he was a son of the late George L. and Janice F. (Porter) Schiebel Sr. George made his career as a master electrician.

An avid outdoorsman, George loved camping and canoeing on the Shenandoah River, hiking and kayaking. He had a passion for music and enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica.

George is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Martha (Hirst) Schiebel; children, Andrew Schiebel and Carolyne Schiebel (Sean Bradley); and siblings, Diane Smolen, Peggy Ortmann and Christopher Behrens.

SCHIEBEL — A visitation for family and friends of George L. Schiebel Jr., who died Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Landenberg United Methodist Church, 205 Penn Green Road, Landenberg, Pa., where a memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Inurnment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George’s memory to the Shenandoah National Park Trust, P.O. Box 341, Charlottesville, VA 22902; or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

The Shenandoah Valley was one of his favorite places to visit throughout his life with many canoe and camping trips. That location always held a special place in George’s heart and it would mean a lot to him to know it was being preserved through his name.
