Fogel grateful, finishes medical phase of return home
Butler County native Marc Fogel is thanking everybody who worked to win his release from a Russian prison, and said he has completed the medical phase of his transition home.
Fogel, who was a teacher in Russia, was released Tuesday, Feb. 11, after three and a half years in prison in Russia for possession of medical marijuana, provided an update on his transition home through a post Friday night on his sister Anne Fogel’s Facebook page.
“Free at last, free at last, thank God almighty I am free at last! All of your support and love was my nourishment the last 3 years and 6 months and I will be forever grateful. I am humbled and overwhelmed by what has been done to secure my release by so many,” Fogel wrote.
He said he finished the medical phase of transition home through the Department of State.
“I am delighted to report I have positively completed the medical phase of the transition protocol done by the State Department. Tomorrow we will began another phase of this program which needs to be completed before moving into life as we know it. I cannot wait to rejoin our community but this will take a bit of time and I ask for some patience in replying to you all. I look forward to reaching out to all of you in due time. With gratitude, respect, and humility,” Fogel wrote.
