Subfreezing temperatures staying the week

Winter Weather DME

A winter storm that rolled in over the weekend will greet Monday morning commuters with snow, high winds and below freezing temperatures.

One to two inches of snowfall and wind gusts exceeding 30 mph will move into the county as a storm front passes Sunday night into Monday morning, said David Shallenberger, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Moon Township.

Flurries on Monday will end around 1 p.m., but the high will reach only 23 degrees accompanied by west winds blowing 14 to 17 mph with gusts reaching 32 mph, according to the forecast.

Shallenberger said the National Weather Service is contemplating a wind advisory for Sunday and Monday.

“It’s going to be pretty windy — at least 30 to 40 mph in Butler,” he said.

The temperature will sink into the single digits Monday night and rise to only about 20 degrees Tuesday under partly sunny skies before dropping back down to the single digits Tuesday night, according to the forecast.

“We’re looking at single digits for Tuesday morning,” Shallenberger said.

Snow is expected to return Wednesday afternoon and Thursday with high temperatures remaining in the 20s

Temperatures will reach the mid 20s on Friday and could warm some on Saturday.

“Saturday is best the chance to get above freezing,” Shallenberger said.
