CENTER TWP — A multi-car crash on Route 8 in Center Township has led to a major traffic slowdown near the Clearview Mall.

The crash occurred around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, on a day where snow and rain blanketed Butler County, resulting in treacherous road conditions. At the time of the crash, Route 8’s road surface was extremely slippery.

Two vehicles — a blue Dodge pickup and a white SUV — went off the side of the road and suffered disabling, major front-end damage. According to Mike Pflugh, chief of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, either two or three occupants were involved in the accident, and two were transported to Butler Memorial Hospital.

“(They were) probably moderate injuries,” Pflugh said. “I'm not sure if they needed to get to a trauma center at the time.”

Along with the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department, Butler Ambulance Service arrived on the scene, and a stretcher was pulled out.

Traffic was closed in both directions for a time on Route 8 before both lanes opened back up.
