AC Valley, teacher part ways
FOXBURG, Clarion County — Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District agreed to part ways with a teacher after a state police investigation in January closed with no wrongdoing found.
The district approved a severance agreement and general release with Amber Alworth, an elementary school teacher, at its Monday, Feb. 17 board meeting.
The agreement was signed by Alworth on Jan. 20. The district’s school board agenda said Alworth had been placed on administrative leave since May 20, 2024, and on unpaid leave since July 12, 2024.
The agreement to part ways comes after Alworth was the subject of social media rumors alleging misconduct. No specific employees were named as being part of the police investigation.
At Monday’s board meeting, superintendent David McDeavitt encouraged the school board to approve the agreement. He also said that amid social media rumors being spread, his administration has taken required steps to address the situation.
“I realize there have been some comments on social media in which rumors are recycled and embellished, and lots of innuendo has been freely spread,” McDeavitt said in a prepared statement. “I represent to you that my administration has taken all the steps regarding the situation involving this person that are required and advisable. I encourage the board to ratify this agreement to put closure to this situation and to allow the district to focus on the actual challenges and opportunities at hand.”
He said safety and well-being of students are the top priorities of the district amid the ongoing rumors.
“I assure you that, just like the AC Valley School District board, the administration makes the healthy and safe development of our students a top priority,” McDeavitt said.
McDeavitt and the school board could not comment further on the agreement and its details. He said in order to see the details, a right-to-know request would need to be filed and approved.
The agreement was listed on the agenda for the school board’s Feb 10 work session, but was not in front of the school board at the meeting.
Previous reporting by the Butler Eagle on Feb. 4 showed that an investigation into AC Valley had already been closed, with no wrongdoing found. The confirmation of an investigation came following social media rumors and complaints alleging misconduct against numerous current and former AC Valley employees.
At the time of the report, state police for Troop C said Clarion County District Attorney Drew Welsh completed an investigation in January related to the district, which is situated in Butler, Clarion and Venango counties.
