WPIAL basketball roundup: Knoch girls lose, North Catholic advances in Class 4A first round

Knoch girls basketball’s season came to an end Monday with a 61-43 loss to No. 8 Laurel Highlands in the first round of the WPIAL Class 4A tournament.

The No. 9 Knights (12-11) got a team-high 16 points from Karlee Buterbaugh, who also made three 3-pointers. Jada Burgard had nine points, all on 3s, and Neah Ewing had eight.

Laurel Highlands will face No. 1 Blackhawk in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

North Catholic 62, Mt. Pleasant 23 — No. 3 North Catholic cruised to a first-round win Monday in the WPIAL Class 4A tournament.

Sam Weir scored 14 points, draining four 3-pointers in the process. Brady Wehner scored 13, Harmony Jones 11 and Sarah Loughry 10. The Trojanettes led 46-9 at halftime.

They will face No. 6 South Park in Thursday’s quarterfinals at a site and time to be determined.
