Newcaster

Michael “Mike” M. Newcaster, 85, of Butler, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, at his home.

A lifelong resident of Butler, he was born March 20, 1939, the son of the late Nicholas and Margaret (Dorcy) Newcaster, and grew up on Institute Hill. He graduated from Butler High School as part of the Class of 1957.

Michael was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, and he was actively involved in several local organizations, including the Butler Moose, Tanglewood Senior Center and the Foxburg American Legion. He was retired from Armco Steel, where he worked for 40 years in the pipe shop and was a representative and leader in the Butler Independent Union.

Always smiling and ready to share a hello, Mike was a great storyteller and an equally great listener who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved music, whether listening to his favorite oldies bands or performing karaoke with his strong singing voice. But his favorite way to enjoy music was beside his beloved wife of 64 years, Dee Dee. You could regularly find Mike and Dee Dee on the dance floor at home or when on vacation, and in recent years they loved seeing concerts at local venues.

In addition to his wife, Stella “Dee Dee” (Pensy) Newcaster of Butler, Mike is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jayanne and Gary Matthis of Fox Chapel, and their children, his beloved granddaughters, Megan “Meg” and Hope. Also surviving are his twin brother, Nicholas E. Newcaster of Butler; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Newcaster; his dearly loved sisters and brothers-in-law; and many treasured nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert J. Newcaster.

NEWCASTER — Friends of Michael “Mike” M. Newcaster, who died Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at All Saints Parish, St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main St. Ext., Butler, with Father Nick Argentieri officiating.

Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
