Butler Big Lots officially closed
The Butler Big Lots at 190 Alameda Plaza closed its doors for the final time on Feb. 21, according to management.
Customers were given one final chance to buy the remaining items Friday morning, but as of noon, the doors were locked with the store almost empty.
Gordon Brothers Retail Partners, the Boston-based asset liquidation firm assisting Big Lots with its bankruptcy proceeding produced a list of locations likely to remain in operation in early February, and the Butler Township location was not not one of them.
In December 2024, retail company Variety Wholesalers, headquartered in Henderson, N.C., said it would take over 200 to 400 Big Lots stores under a deal with Gordon Brothers Retail Partners.
The Big Lots stores listed in the court filing as likely to remain open are in 14 states, including 22 locations in Pennsylvania.
Big Lots filed for bankruptcy in September 2024, and had 1,392 stores at the beginning of 2024, but now has 872 stores across the U.S., according to its website.
The Big Lots in Butler Township employed about 20 people.
