College roundup: Knoch grad Caden Traggiai breaks own PSU-Altoona swimming mark with conference gold
Knoch grad Caden Traggiai (Penn State-Altoona) won gold in the men’s 500-yard freestyle at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Thursday.
His 4:39.58 also reset his own program record by nearly three tenths of a second.
Traggiai followed that up a night later with a 4:20.60 in the 400 individual medley, finishing fourth.
In another conference swimming championship, Grove City women’s Emma Plank (Slippery Rock High) helped win the 400 free relay title at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championship in 3:37.19.
Jomo Goings scored 20 points, and Day Waters scored 20 to lead Slippery Rock men’s basketball to an important 78-71 win over IUP in the penultimate game of the regular season.
Goings added six rebounds and five assists, and Day, who was 9 of 16 from the field, grabbed five rebounds.
The Rock (14-13, 10-9 PSAC West) got back above .500 for the first time since Jan. 22. SRU has clinched a PSAC Tournament berth.
IUP beat Slippery Rock women’s basketball 59-45 Saturday to drop The Rock to 7-18 (4-15 PSAC West) with one game left in the season.
Alyssa Gillin led SRU with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The season ends Wednesday at Edinboro.
