High school roundup: Thomas Jefferson beats Mars girls basketball in WPIAL 4A third-place game

Mars girls basketball will be WPIAL’s fourth seed in next week’s PIAA Class 5A Girls Basketball Tournament.
The Planets fell to Thomas Jefferson 59-47 in the district third-place game Tuesday night. Eight teams from WPIAL 5A make the state tournament.
Alexis Cashdollar scored a Mars-high 14 points, and Mya Moore added 10. Thomas Jefferson, led by Kaylee DeAngelo’s 21 points, led 38-28 at halftime.
State brackets are expected to be announced Sunday. Mars will face District 3’s third seed in the first round March 8 at a site and time to be determined.
