Butler County's great daily newspaper

Jimmy Johns might be coming to Adams Twp.

ADAMS TWP — Butler County may be in line for its second Jimmy John’s sandwich shop.

Township supervisors gave their approval to plans for a drive-thru Jimmy Johns shop to be located at the Adams Town Center shopping center on Route 228 near the Adams Area Fire station during a meeting Monday, Feb. 24.

As of now, the shopping center features Supremo’s Pizzeria, Nelson’s Kitchen & Bath and Fleming Tire & Auto, with more development said to be in progress.

Ray Nelson, the owner of the shopping complex, was on hand to present the plan for the drive-thru sandwich shop, which had been approved the previous week by the township’s planning commission. According to Nelson, the site was originally planned to hold a drive-thru ice cream shop.

Nelson says the plans for the restaurant changed little since they were last presented as an ice cream shop, with the exception of the removal of a large indoor retaining wall. The restaurant will feature some indoor seating in addition to a drive-thru.

The only current Jimmy John’s location in Butler County is along Route 19 in Cranberry Township, just barely within county limits.

The township also is soliciting bids to install a traffic signal at the intersection of 228 and Marland Drive to control traffic around Adams Town Center, after it received a $600,000 grant for the project last month.
