Sandra Smith

Smith

Sandra Smith, 73, of Tarentum, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, in her home.

She was born in Pittsburgh on Sept. 2, 1951, to the late Michael and Julie Matto Roman.

Sandra grew up in Renton, graduated from Mars High School, and prior to moving to Tarentum she resided in Freeport, Vandergrift and Butler. She worked as a social worker for George Junior Republic, Grove City, for over 20 years and was a cottage parent for troubled youth.

She always will be remembered for her giving nature, always willing to give when people or animals were in need. She spent her free time writing to soldiers, making crafts and drawings of angels, baking, and with her friends, family and, especially, grandchildren. She especially loved her time spent at Community Life, where she was a member of the Steel Swinging Seniors Band. They would travel to other community centers to play. Music was her love and passion. She had many beloved friends with Community Life. She was a sister in Christ and her strong faith got her through years of illness.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura (Joshua) Beck of Lower Burrell; twin grandchildren, Layla and Cooper Beck; and brother, Mark (Lisa) Roman of Albuquerque, N.M.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Linda Oberlin.
