Butler graduate and Clarion swimmer David Bocci was selected Wednesday to the field in the same sport for this year’s NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships. The event will be held from March 12-15 at Indiana University.
Bocci made four different NCAA B cuts throughout the season, in the 100-yard butterfly, 200 fly, 200 free and 500 free. He’s a two-time All-American in the 200 fly, and his season-best time of 1:46.80 in that swim is 16th in the nation.
David Leslie, a Butler grad and senior pitcher at Grove City, was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference pitcher of the week after throwing five shutout innings last week against Averett. He struck out eight.
Slippery Rock junior guard Jomo Goings was named the PSAC Western Division men’s basketball athlete of the week Monday after averaging 19.5 points, nine rebounds and 4.5 assists in two games last week.
Also earning a PSAC softball weekly honor was SRU’s Alexsa Hurd, who went 1-0 with 14 strikeouts in 14 innings over two games to start the season last week.
The Rock men’s basketball team got a game-winning bucket from Luke Howes with 3.7 seconds left to beat Edinboro 83-81 Wednesday night to head into the PSAC Tournament on a high note.
Howe finished with 18 points.
The women, meanwhile, ended the season with a 65-44 loss to Edinboro and closed out the year 7-19 (4-16 PSAC). Alyssa Gillin, Mairan Haggerty, Brooklyn Jones and Kayley Joseph-Bernard had 10 points each.
