EAST BUTLER — After a year and a half of trials and tribulations, the East Butler Baseball Association is set to return to the borough’s fields.

Borough council voted unanimously at the Monday, March 3 meeting to approve the East Butler Sports Complex user agreement, ending the association’s ban from using East Butler’s baseball fields.

The East Butler Baseball Association was locked out of the baseball fields in August 2023. The borough presented concerns over the association lacking child clearances and proof of insurance.

Since then, council and the association have worked to negotiate an agreement that both sides deem amicable.

After the vote, association and council members offered rounds of applause to one another.

To help recruit players, the East Butler Baseball Association is offering free admission to new league members. However, news of the agreement may change things for the better.

“I opened registration with the idea that we’re playing baseball. I’m not going to tell you where or how because we didn’t want to do that prior to this,” association secretary Regan Mooney said. “When we leave here tonight, it’s going to be a different story.”

Mooney stated that she hopes to have multiple leagues for different age ranges, but guarantees there will be at least one.

“This is all we wanted,” Mooney said. “We just wanted to be back up there. We wanted to get those kids back up there.”

“We’re just glad we got to work it out and we can have their kids up there and playing,” Councilman Shawn Nagy said of the agreement.

The meeting also saw approval for purchase of a $1,500 iPad for the borough to have access to its documents.

The next East Butler Borough Council meeting is set for April 7 at 7 p.m.
