PIAA basketball: Mars boys’ season ends in Class 5A first-round loss to West York

Mars boys basketball lost a tight one to West York in the first round of the PIAA Class 5A boys basketball tournament Friday night.

District 3’s third-seeded Bulldogs beat WPIAL’s fourth-seeded Planets 53-51. West York will face WPIAL runner-up Peters Township, a 64-54 winner over Spring Grove, in Tuesday’s second round.

Austen Wroblewski scored 13 points, as did Will Wilson. The Planets drained 10 3-pointers in the loss.

Mars led 31-24 at halftime, but West York erupted for 17 points in the third quarter to take the lead. The Planets got a 3-pointer with 15.5 seconds left to draw within 53-51 but could not send the game to overtime.
