Darlene Wetzell
Darlene E. Wetzell, 81, of Chicora, formerly of Kittanning passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025, peacefully in her home surrounded by family.
Born Aug. 25, 1943, in Kittanning, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (née Helgert) Edwards. She grew up one of six children, having four sisters and a brother.
She learned the importance of family from a very early age. That lesson created the building blocks for a solid foundation to a beautiful life.
She was a devoted and loving mother, as well as a nurturing and adoring grandmother. She would often say her family was her life, and the love she spread proved that. She loved baking, playing Phase 10, coloring and especially the Christmas season. She worked at the Pub Bar in Kittanning for many years. Before retiring, Darlene spent more than 10 rewarding years with Giant Eagle. She was the strongest person you knew, funny, determined, and a truly beautiful person inside and out.
Darlene is survived by two of her children Mary Ekas and her husband, Carl, of Butler, and Richard Edwards Sr. and his fiancé, Hope Greenwald, of Chicora; six grandchildren, Carl Ekas, Nicole Jarrett, Richard Edwards Jr., Shawn Edwards, Nicholas Edwards and Cassandra Hartenbauer; 13 great-grandchildren, one being Brayden Edwards, whom she raised. Darlene is also survived by her two sisters, Monica Claypool, and her husband, Ronald, of Butler and Linda Bergbigler, and her late husband, Arthur, of Chicora. She was also an aunt and great-aunt to many more.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence J. Wetzell (Tub); daughter, Lueann Edwards; three sisters and their spouses, Sara and Harold Powell, Phyllis Mechling, Glenda and Ken Yurga; and brother, James Edwards. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Christopher Edwards and Erin Edwards.
