Karl Rottman Jr.
Karl Joseph Rottman Jr., 83, of Petrolia, a retired Petroleum Valley businessman and township supervisor, passed away in the comfort of his home in the presence of his family Thursday evening, March 6, 2025.
Karl was born Feb. 2, 1942, in Fairview Township. He was the son of the late Karl J. Sr. and Dorothy Mae Hazlett Rottman.
He attended Fairview Township Karns City schools and had been employed as a welder at Pullman-Standard for many years. Later, Karl owned and operated Rottman Oil and Gas with his son, plugging gas wells for T.W. Phillips and other gas producers. He was also an independent oil producer and served on the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Independent Petroleum Producers.
Karl was a long-time Fairview Township Supervisor and a founding member of the Bear Creek Watershed Authority. He attended Martinsburg Church in Bruin. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn A. DeWoody Rottman, whom he married on July 30, 1965, at Seneca United Methodist Church. Also surviving is a son, Brian K. Rottman of Petrolia; three sisters, Joan Wagner and her husband, Jim, of Carlisle, Sylvia Dedus and her husband, Donald, of Hazelton, and Helen Snow of North Washington; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kay and Ken Kehm of Frankfurt Springs; long-time family friend, Matthew Boswk of Petrolia; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Renee; a sister, Donna; and a brother-in-law, Frank Snow.
ROTTMAN — A memorial service for Karl Joseph Rottman Jr., who died Thursday, March 6, 2025, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Martinsburg Church of Bruin, with church pastor the Rev. Larry Thompson officiating.
Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.
