With a two-goal third period, Mars earned a 3-2 victory over Chartiers Valley in the Penguins Cup Class 1A semifinals at Robert Morris University’s Island Sports Center on Wednesday night.

Gavin Stevenson and Xavier Bossola both scored even strength goals in that final period. Shay Clark opened the scoring 1:17 into the matchup. Planets goalie Adam Goul made 32 saves in the win.

In the Penguins Cup final on Tuesday, Mars will play the winner of the Avonworth/Moon semifinal that followed. Avonworth led 5-2 late in the third period and the game finished too late for press.

Seneca Valley opened its season with a 5-0 win over Riverside. Marco Lopez, Gianni Varlotta, and Kylan Meiers had singles wins, while Paul Weis and Eric Chen and Billy Conway and Jackson Brandt had doubles victories.
