Cutting IRS staff counterproductive
Reducing the national debt???
Over 6,000 civil servants working for the Internal Revenue Service were fired.
In 2024, the IRS collected $1.3 billion from wealthy tax dodgers. Now we will be lucky to get our tax refunds and forget about getting someone to answer your questions. How does this help reduce our national debt and make government more efficient?
Each day, on average, $5.64 billion is added to the national debt and another $2.6 billion in interest payments to service that debt. Tax cuts that go mainly to millionaires and billionaires will add to the debt.
Tariffs that are taxes we pay on all goods coming from Canada, Mexico and China will not make up the difference in the tax revenue lost from the tax cuts and only add to the $36.2 trillion national debt.
