James ‘Jim’ King
James “Jim” King, 75, of Butler, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
He was born in Butler on July 7, 1949, to the late Frank and Suzanne (Halahurich) King.
Jim graduated from Butler High School in 1967, and then honorably served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was employed as a steelworker at Armco/AK Steel for over 40 years until he retired.
Jim enjoyed ice fishing on Moraine and hunting. Jim and his wife loved to hike the trails at Moraine, garden and go to the casino. They also were members of the S.O.N.S of Lake Erie where they would fish on charter boats and Pymatuning in his fishing boat. He was also a member of the Happy Hunters Sportsman’s Club.
Jim was known for being a loving husband and father who adored his grandchildren. He was an avid reader, especially World War II nonfiction books, and he made everyone laugh with his distinctive wit and humor. Jim lived and raised his family in the house he built with the help of friends and family.
Jim was the beloved husband of Debra “Debbie” (Smith) King since their marriage on Sept. 1, 1977; father of Kristen (Jake) Walchesky, Jason (Cathy) and Jerod (Brigid McDevitt) King; brother of F. David King; grandfather of Isaac and Lila Walchesky; and brother-in-law of Margaret (Leo) Geibel, Elizabeth Gregor, Guy (Kathy), Rory (Deborah), Brian (Tammy), Larry and Deborah (Regis) Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Suzanne (Bill) Swartout; and his brother, Bob (Barbara) King; his father and mother-in-law; one sister-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
KING — Family and friends of James “Jim” King, who died Tuesday, March 11, 2025, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler. Full military honors and a prayer service will immediately follow in the funeral home.
