High school roundup: Butler baseball beats Knoch in season opener as Nolan Stefaniak records 11 Ks

Butler baseball opened its season Monday with a strong 4-1 win over Knoch.

Nolan Stefaniak dominated for five innings on the mound, striking out 11 while allowing just three hits and a walk to pick up the win. Aaron Lunn closed the door with two innings of relief, fanning four.

The Golden Tornado (1-0) needed just four hits to win it. Nash Cuffman finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double and a stolen base.

Knoch’s Dylan Roth was 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and an RBI.

Seneca Valley 16, Sto-Rox 0 — The Raiders started the season with a win. No other stats were provided.

Boys volleyball

Mars lost to Ambridge 3-0 in the season opener. No other stats were provided.

Boys lacrosse

Butler opened its season with a 10-2 win over North Catholic.

Grant Holt scored three goals and had three assists in the victory. Payton Fuqua chipped in a goal and two assists, and Cayden Bayer had two goals. Brock Collins and Nolan Cranmer each scored.

Jack Meiser and Max Weiland combined for seven saves.

Girls lacrosse

Mars opened its season with an overwhelming 16-1 win over Hampton. No other stats were provided.

Butler 11, North Catholic 2 — The Golden Tornado got 6 goals from Taryn Hilovsky and two from Addi Pino in the win. Campbell Clouse had seven saves.

Brooke Steyer, Willow Womack and Izzy Skal each scored a goal, too.
